Bringing Decades of Leisure Club Experience to Huddersfield
Big Box Leisure Club Limited is a private limited company owned and operated by Jamie Lyne and his business partner Simon Ryan. Jamie and Simon have decades of experience in the leisure industry and own and operate two very successful leisure clubs in Greater Manchester.
We completely understand that we are not in Manchester, Jamie has lived in Huddersfield for the last 25 years, and we really make sure we tailor our clubs, which are all unique, to the local community and area. We just wanted to give you a quick overview of our other clubs to hopefully give you some idea of what we are looking to provide at BigBox Huddersfield and the fact that, (hopefully), we know what we are doing!
OUR EXISTING CLUBS
Waterside Leisure Club , Didsbury, Manchester
We took this club over in 2014 when it was on the verge of closing. The club has been transformed in the last 9 years and is now at full capacity. We are immensely proud of what we have done here. Not only have we created an outstanding leisure facility with pool, gym, spa, and 100’s of classes, alongside the 45 room hotel, we have also created a community. We have regular workshops, live events, and community activities, and are a meeting place for many local groups, support groups and just friends having a coffee! This is definitely what we are most proud of and is what we want for BigBox, Huddersfield.
Brooklands Health Club, Sale, Manchester
Sat within the grounds of Brookland Sports Club, an amazing long established club with great facilities including cricket pitches, tennis courts, a bowling green and full sized all weather pitches, the former gym was very run down and had closed. We undertook a major renovation project and opened in August 22. We are really happy with what we have created. We are already close to capacity within 12 months of relaunching the site, have a luxury pool and spa, fantastic, gym, great studio, large modern community bar / lounge area and we work hand in hand with the sports club to offer the local community an amazing range of sports and leisure facilities.

So why this club and site?
As we have mentioned, Jamie has lived in Huddersfield for the last 25 years, currently lives 15 minutes from the site and drives past the club daily. Like everyone else, we were surprised to see Total Fitness close the club and we knew how well-loved and supported it was. It was a part of the community.
We knew it was a little tired but felt this was a very exciting opportunity for us. We made enquiries immediately, but it has taken a long time, and lots of effort, to get all the boring stuff in place, finance, planning, etc, etc, a lot longer than we had hoped. In the interim, the site suffered from vandals and even urban explorers took a look around! This did not deter us and in July we started work. This is the fun bit and we are currently on track and on schedule to open in early January 2024.
We have two main aims / goals for the centre
Firstly, to create a high specification leisure club, with great facilities for all age groups and abilities, where members can exercise, relax and have fun, whilst being appealing and commercially viable for years to come.
Secondly, and equally important to us, to create a club that has a definite sense of community, supports local organisations and community groups and promotes the benefits of health and wellness not only to our members but to the wider community.
We will be releasing further information on all our facilities, community support packages, etc in the weeks to come but hopefully the above gives a little more info on what we are trying to create.
Finally, a couple of quick questions answered:
Why the name “BigBox”?
contrary to some thoughts we are not a storage facility, a BigBox Gym is actually a large leisure facility which offers a wide range of facilities and activities. We like it anyway!
Are we a chain?
No, we are definitely are not a chain but, as explained above, we operate 2 other independent clubs in Manchester.
Will there be more BigBox clubs?
Huddersfield is our first and flagship, we will get this working well before we think about another
